10 on 10: what june looked like

Welcome to July’s addition of “10 on 10”- a blog circle made up of several photographers posting ten images on a new topic each month.  This month’s theme: what last month looked like!  This works out quite well as I was nearly silent on my blog last month.  So here is a quick recap of how we spent June:

The month began as I was wrapping up another class in Photoshop.  This caused me to spend some serious time reexamining white balance and my post-processing skills in editing skin tones (which means I spent a lot of time chasing my baby around holding this grey card, in all different lighting, to make sure that what I was seeing and how I was editing the colors of skin was really accurate.)  I drove myself slightly mad during the process (I can be a little um, obsessive about these sorts of things), but learned a lot in this fantastic class, and luckily- I have such a cute and agreeable model on hand to help out.  He was such a good sport about it!

Kiddo also finished his first year of school and summer officially began (many photos of that exciting event on Instagram.  Want to follow me over there?  I’m @juliatulley.)
Now that it is summer, our rituals of sunset “family” walks (and now this year “scoots,” as kiddo has made this cool new acquisition) have resumed.  I love this time of day!

We took a trip to Lincoln Park Zoo, visited the animals and ran through fountains…
Kiddo painted a lot (it seemed to rain much of this past month in Chicago, and kept us inside more than I remember in summer’s past.)
As part of one of my ongoing goals, I have truly made more of an attempt to get in my photos…

And a semi-big event in our home… we finally packed up kiddo’s “baby” books  (it was a tough few hours for all of us, he took some time to say goodbye to them.)  Although I did promise we wouldn’t give them away so he could revisit them when he wanted (to be fair, the book situation was getting a little out of control and it was time to make room for the abundance of “big kid” books he also has.)

And finally, I found a lovely little “urban oasis” just around the corner from home, quite perfect for more photos.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at my version of June!  Now please continue on in our blog circle to see the lovely work of Jenny Owens and what her month looked like in Hampshire, England!
