wheels

I’m not so much a “car person.”   I drove an ’89 Toyota Camry until about four years ago when that faithful car finally, literally, would drive no more and I had to replace it.  By the time I “traded it in,” it was dotted with patches of rust, had a window that would not open, a broken speedometer, and the only form of music it ever played came from the AM/FM radio.  It was once even stolen off the streets of Chicago and eventually returned to me by the police.  But I loved that car because quite simply, it got me from point A to point B.  I guess that’s all I’m really looking for in a car and I just don’t give it much more thought than that.

The men in my life feel a little differently.
From the time C was old enough to crawl, he was obsessed with all things wheels.  When he was very young he didn’t own any toy with wheels so he would spend hours pushing his little wooden xylophone around the living room making vrooming noises.  This always amazed me, because no one had ever shown him how to do that, he just seemed to instinctively know what to do.  We then realized we should buy him a couple of little cars.  Oh, how the cars have since taken over our home.  He likes to read about cars, to study his cars, to line them up and rearrange them, to build roads for them to drive on, and of course, to have about 30 of them spread across the living room at any given time.  He also must bring at least one (usually, more like eight) along with him whenever we leave home.
When my husband suggested that we go to the auto show this past weekend, my first reaction was- Uh, no thanks.  However I quickly realized that this would be a dream come true for my little one, a new experience for all of us, and perhaps even a way to keep the interest of my male readers (after all, they did stick with me through those baking posts!)  So, on Saturday morning we headed off to McCormick Place for a day of everything vehicle-related.  Little boy (and big boy) heaven… and it turned out to be a lot of fun for me too!

Connor was so totally worn out after his big morning of fun, but before leaving McCormick Place, we stopped to watch the water “dance”:

And when the fountains quieted down, C found another way to entertain himself.  He can make just about anything into something to climb on or something to hang from:

And this is what he did as soon as we got home:

This guy just loves his wheels.
