some kind of wonderful

There was something really kind of wonderful about photographing this family for me.  Amanda was one of my closest friends in high school.  We spent hours, days really, dissecting every aspect of life with one another- over the phone, in each others’ basements, even through long letters whenever one of us would leave town on a vacation.  Sometimes we would wonder about the future- what we would do, where we would go, who we would marry.  Fourteen year old girls can really talk.  Somehow, not sure how, but somehow we lost touch after we graduated.  However, even though it was several years between then and just a few years ago when we reconnected, in some ways it was as if no time had passed at all.  In a lot of ways we are still those same girls that we were when we were in high school… oh except that now when we get together to talk about life, we are bringing along with us our children.  That’s something our fourteen year old brains could really not have imagined.

And that was what was so special for me about photographing my dear old friend and her incredible family.  Here we all are, back in the town we grew up in, all grown up.  And what a joy they were to photograph.  It’s not hard to see exactly how they all feel about each other.   Thanks for such a fun and meaningful day Z’s, and for letting me be a part of the beautiful life that you have created together.  I hope we can do it again soon.
