About your session

About My Style
Kiddos grow up and life changes so quickly.  When my son was a newborn, before he could even lift his own head, I was told over and over by well-meaning strangers “and before you know it, he’ll be heading off to college.”  And while I fully embrace growing up as a wonderful part of life, it also made my heart hurt just a little bit.  The thing is, while I am so excited for whatever the future brings for my child, I also wanted to remember all the moments that were happening now.  Not just the big moments like his birthday parties or holidays, but the little moments, like how his hair curled before he had his first haircut, how he wrapped his tiny fingers around mine, or how he could spend hours perched on the ground studying ants and all their bug friends.  I wanted to remember which toy was his favorite when he was a baby or exactly which book he had me read over and over when he was two.  I wanted to capture all of these moments so I could always look back.  And I found that by quietly standing in the background with my camera, I could photograph him exactly as he was, preserving those memories forever.

About Your Session
This is the same approach I take to photographing your family.  I consider myself a lifestyle photographer and want to capture these special little moments within your family as they happen naturally.  Although I will give direction, I do not pose children and I do not use props.  Sessions last for up to two hours (with special consideration and extra time for newborn sessions) allowing plenty of time to stop if your child needs a break from the camera… the goal of every session is to keep kids (and parents) relaxed and happy.  I encourage families to consider having their session in the comfort of their own home.  This not only provides a familiar surrounding for your family, but also allows your little ones’ nurseries, bedrooms, or any other area of your home that you want to remember to be captured as well.  And if you prefer, we can venture out into your neighborhood, or weather-permitting, choose to meet at an outdoor location in the city.

Before Your Session
Prior to your session date, we will meet for a brief, pre-session consultation to go over details so that you know exactly what to expect from me, and to make sure that all of your questions are answered (including the most common “what should we wear?!” to which we can have a whole conversation about!  I always start off by saying, wear what you are comfortable in, what you love, and what makes your feel good.)  I am happy to come to your home, or if it is more convenient for you, we can also schedule a phone conversation.

After Your Session
After your session, you will be shown a minimum of 20, fully edited images.  I am happy to provide you with ordering guidance and a variety of print and wall canvas options are available.  And because I know how important it can be to families to own the digital files of your childrens’ images, digital files are also available for purchase.

I would love to have the chance to capture your little (or not so little!) one’s moments.  Send me a message and let’s chat a little more!
